Depending on experience level and interest, entry-level engineers at SGF can become involved in diverse and challenging projects. Interns/Co-ops may participate as integral team members, making recommendations on acquisitions and other business development opportunities. Projects and tasks vary dependent on the business needs. SGF seeks engineers from a wide range of technical disciplines to meet its growing business ventures.

Marketing & Transportation Engineering (M&TE):

M&TE is responsible for SGF Energy Company LP's engineering design, construction and maintenance functions. M&TE project engineers provide expertise to the company's crude oil and product terminals and its pipeline, terminal and transport operations. Our team of project engineers has expertise in various engineering concentrations (Project Examples). 

The project management process may include but is not limited to:

  • Scope definition, design, permitting as well as interfacing with government officials
  • Cost estimating and economic evaluation
  • Evaluating bid sets as well as construction supervision once contractor selected
  • Daily job activities involve all aspects of project development and management. Engineers may also be called upon to provide technical support to the operating components of SGF.

Desired major(s) as follows: Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering

Project Controls Engineering Projects may include but are not limited to:

  • Planning and scheduling of materials, labor and equipment for construction and assisting with bid preparation, award and contract administration
  • Ensuring compliance with control procedures and processes
  • Preparing documents that provide an audit trail of major project decisions and risk mitigation efforts

Desired major(s) as follows: Construction Management, Construction Science, Construction Engineering, Construction Technology, Project Management or Engineering

Refining Engineering Projects may include but are not limited to:

Electrical Engineers:

  • Providing technical assistance in maintenance type functions to coordinating new systems associated with capital investments
  • Ensuring reliability in the instrument and electrical distribution systems

Process Control Engineers (Chemical Engineers):

  • Daily monitoring and troubleshooting of a specific unit or units within the refinery
  • Design and development of capital projects as well as major modifications to existing units
  • Maintaining and troubleshooting control system problems as well as developing advanced control applications for the process units

Project/Reliability Engineer (Mechanical Engineers):

  • Organizing and coordinating projects from conception through construction and startup
  • Installation of new vessels and exchangers, pump and piping modifications and the installation of instrumentation necessary to enhance unit performance
  • Supporting the refinery's maintenance department through design and development of equipment reliability improvements, root cause failure analysis and optimization of maintenance predictive and preventive programs

Metallurgical Engineering Projects may include but are not limited to: 

  • Reviewing inspection recommendations and inputting appropriate data into the Meridium program
  • Assisting in the maintenance of the reliability analyses files for fixed equipment and in the creation/maintenance of a database for corrosion coupon monitoring
  • Researching/gathering data for metallurgical recommendation reporting and failure analysis

Desired major(s) as follows: Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering or Materials Engineering

Internships and Co-ops available for: Summer, Fall and Winter/Spring

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors, Masters and/or Ph.D.
  • 3.0 minimum overall GPA
